- The vessel class is named for sporting umpires, recognising their role in administering fairness in their fields.

Watchkeeper class Long Range Light Patrol Vessel
- Some of the smallest vessels in the Naval Services, the "LRPVs" of the Coast Guard act as long range, targeted patrols to cover as much of our seas as possible with minimal cost and manpower needs.
- These ships are co-crewed with the Navy and Army Auxiliary Fleet's officers; each ship is crewed by a senior sailor and an officer, and these ships are utilised to provide a first opportunity for junior officers to captain a commissioned vessel, and a first opportunity for new senior sailors to lead at sea.
