The Dá Yǔ class of fast coastal monitors are highly effective combatant ships, designed to provide a missile boat capability to the Naval Service supporting our coastal defence.
The vessel utilises a wave-piercing catamaran hull, which provides the vessel with a high speed capability, reduced draft, and a wider deck footprint allowing more missiles to be placed aboard. The vessels construction is aluminium in design, and utilises four diesel engines powering four waterjets. The vessel is painted and designed to maximise radar stealth capabilities, and this is reflected in the use of an engine exhaust system which directs exhaust to the underside of the catamaran; the exhaust is also run through a water misting system to reduce infrared heat. The vessel's key capabilities are the 16 missile launch systems for the LRASM anti-ship and ground attack missile system, supported by 16 vertical launch cells providing an anti-aircraft capability. The vessel also equips a sonar towed array in the starboard hullform, and a RHIB boat in the port hullform. This vessel is designed to rapidly emerge, strike a target, and return to Xuande-Xiphoi's protected waters as quickly as possible. The vessel can be used in a variety of missions supporting the Xuande-Xiphoian Navy, including operations in overseas waters such as anti-piracy and anti-slavery patrols. |
